This is "Raven's Thunder", the enchanted longbow of Nataya Ravenwood, a female Ranger in my current AD&D campaign. This is a recurve bow made from carefully grafted heartwoods to give the shaft superb strength and flexibility. Its single-cam system allows for a much greater pull while reducing the amount the bow must bend, giving the bow greater power and control. As a final touch, the bow is enchanted with the power of the thunderstorm, imbuing each arrow launched from the bow with a powerful electric charge.

Would you believe this is still a work in progress? The bow you see here has taken me weeks of failed attempts to create the sculptured handle and arms. Add to that the intricate work of adding the small touches such as the cams and runes, and you start to get an idea of what it took to get this far.

The background (appropriate, wouldn't you say?) took only a few hours to pop in trees (mostly just the trunks) and set up the lighting conditions. I had hoped to keep the final image size down to 150KB or less, but the high compression required to shrink this image makes the bow far too discolored. I hope you find this image to be worth the extra download time.
